All my life I donated clothes that became too small or no longer matched my style. It felt like the easiest way to help someone else while keeping my home clutter-free.

Things changed after becoming a mom. As my son grew, I found myself surrounded by bags of baby clothes, shoes, blankets, toys, and all the little items that are only used for a short period of time. At first, I wanted to keep everything as a memory of each stage of his childhood. Every tiny bodysuit reminded me of a different milestone.

Eventually, I realized that keeping every item wasn’t preserving memories, but it was filling the house with bags and boxes. The space occupied by those items could be used for new experiences, new adventures, and new memories.

That’s when I decided to try Vinted. My goal wasn’t to make a fortune. I simply wanted the items to be used by other families while recovering a small part of the money we had spent on them. Babies grow incredibly fast, and during his first years, my son needed an entirely new wardrobe every few months.

Listing the first items turned out to be the hardest part. I found myself holding every tiny shirt and pair of shoes, remembering the moments attached to them. To make letting go easier, I took good photos of everything. The photos became my memories, while the physical items could move on to another family.

All sales below are listed in Romanian lei, exactly as they appeared on Vinted. The final total is also converted into U.S. dollars for easier comparison.

Over the course of my first year on Vinted, I completed 52 orders and earned a total of: 1,020.50 lei ($223.40)

While that amount won’t replace a salary, it came from items that would otherwise have been donated or left forgotten in closets and storage boxes.

Expectations vs. Reality

When I first joined Vinted, I expected buyers to purchase multiple items at once so they could save on shipping costs and get bundle discounts. Reality was different. Out of my 52 orders, only 13 were bundle purchases. Most buyers purchased a single item at a time.

I also expected items to sell quickly. Some did, while others sat untouched for months despite being in excellent condition. Selling on Vinted taught me that decluttering for profit is usually a slow process rather than a quick one.

Advantages of Selling on Vinted

The biggest advantage is convenience. Vinted handles payments, shipping labels, order tracking, and communication through a single platform. Even price negotiations are simplified through an offer system, eliminating endless back-and-forth discussions.

Another major benefit is the international market. Living in Romania allows me to sell not only locally but also to buyers in Poland, Hungary, and Greece.

Most importantly, Vinted helped me transform items that were taking up space into useful items for other families. Every package that left my home created a little more room and gave a second life to something we no longer needed.

Disadvantages of Selling on Vinted

Visibility can be unpredictable. Sometimes I upload a listing and receive very few views or none. Since duplicate listings are not allowed, I can’t simply delete and repost the same item to refresh it.

Storage is another challenge. If you choose to sell instead of donate, you need a dedicated space for all listed items until they eventually sell. That means decluttering happens gradually rather than instantly.

Finally, the financial return may be lower than expected. Even though I sold many quality items throughout the year, the final amount wasn’t particularly large compared to the original value of those products.

Still, I view the $223.40 as a bonus. Before Vinted, I donated nearly everything I no longer used. In that context, earning over two hundred dollars while helping other families and creating more space in my home feels like a win.

Would I Use Vinted Again?

Absolutely. It helped me become more intentional about the things I own.

In 2024, Vinted was more than just a selling platform for me. It became a tool that helped me declutter my home, let go of items that had already served their purpose, and give them a chance to be useful to someone else.

I gained space in my home and the peace of mind that came with it. The clothes, toys, and baby items that had been sitting unused are now being enjoyed by other families, and our home feels lighter because of it.

The extra $223.40 was a welcome bonus, and it feels good knowing those items can continue their story somewhere else.
